I liked it very much, as well as the section itself. As it happens I’m reading the dutch translation of Mann’s lecture on Wagner as well right now, since it’s in the recent magazine of @nexusinstituut Nice how you compare reception in Munich of both pieces. Mann writes so humorously! And always there is ‘das geistige Motiv’ and his own mockery of it. In today’s section I especially like the phrase on mass tourism: “die Welt, mann kent das, sucht ihn [Friede] und vertreibt ihn, indem sie sich in lächerlicher Sehnsucht auf ihn stürzt, wähnend, sie könne sich mit ihm vermählen, und wo sie ist, da könne er sein”.
